Abstract :

It is impossible to overstate the significance of mother tongue for a child's cognitive, linguistic, social, and educational development. This acknowledgment led to the 1999 UNESCO declaration of February 21 as International Mother Language Day, which has been observed globally since 1999. Despite this, English and, to a lesser extent, other European languages continue to be given preference over the native mother tongues of India
