Historicity

The town of 'Miraj' is perceived as a 'Medical Hub'. After the arrival of Christian Medical Missionaries, modern medicines and medical science introduced to Miraj. The missionaries, with their great efforts and selfless contribution, developed Miraj into a Medical Hub. Their efforts and the development of Medieval Miraj are understood through the concept of 'Maratha Archaeology'. We have studied the problem by utilizing various sources, like, mainly the archaeological sources; written documents and the memories (oral sources). The study reveals that Christian Medical Missionaries played a significant role in the development of Medieval Miraj into Medical Hub.

'Maratha', although a name of a caste in present Maharashtra; in the pre-independence period, it is perceived as all the people belong to the Marathi culture, irrespective of their castes, religion and location.
