Abstract : In this paper, an attempt has been made to show how Rohinton Mistry portrays the concepts of family with reference to his novel A Fine Balance.In his text, Mistry explores the caste system, authoritarian political power, strict family values and the resultant struggle in the individual psyche. He depicts the slow disintegration of family values and harmony at the hands of powerful economic and political entities.
